MADRID. Spain.- St.Pedro Poveda will be specially remembered May 4th, on the 17th anniversary of his canonization by Pope St. John Paul II in the Plaza de Colon, Madrid.
Over one million people attended the event that recognized the saintly life of this priest, founder of a wide movement for lay people, now present in 30 countries of four Continents, known as the Teresian Association.
The International Web of this Catholic organization has posted a reminder of the date and it is offering information about Pedro Poveda that includes songs to honor him, links to information about the film Poveda and about a Web Site dedicated to him and the possibility of viewing a short summary video of the Mass of canonization.
On that day, Pope John Paul also canonized the Jesuit José María Rubio and the women religious Genoveva Torres, Ángela de la Cruz and María Maravillas de Jesús.
In his words during his visit to Spain for the canonization the Pope said that the new saints were like “light on our path to help us live our faith courageously, to grow in love for our neighbor, and to move forward with hope in the construction of society.” Pope John Paul stressed that “it is possible to be modern and deeply faithful to Jesus Christ”.
Various initiatives have been organized on this anniversary, among them the invitation to join in a prayer on the 4th of May to be held at the Center Santa María de los Negrales, where the remains of Poveda are venerated. It will be at 4:00 PM ( Spain´s time) through the Face Book page of the Network of Educational Centers.
